The Product

Everything CPR is a  nonprofit organization formed to teach the public about CPR. Everything CPR's primary target is young adults who do not know how to give CPR in emergencies at home or their workplace.

My Role

UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery.

Responsibilities

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conduct usability studies, accounting for the accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture and responsive design.

User research

summary

In my research, I discovered that my target users did not know how to perform CPR in the event of an emergency. They also needed to gain knowledge of what CPR was and why it was essential to know. I conducted user interviews, which I then turned into empathy maps to better understand the target user and their needs.

Personas

I want to help people as much as I can, it's important for me

Personas

My grandmother is one of the most important people in my life. I want to be there for her whenever she needs me

Ideation

I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in my competitive audit. My focus was specifically to make it easy for young adults to quickly access CPR training and information.

Usability Study

Main Finds

  • TIme

People were not sure how to go back to homepage

  • People did not know when a CPR step had been completed in the training

  • People wanted more information about the step they were completing when they accessed the video training.

Sitemap

With the app design completed, I started designing the responsive website. I used the Everything CPR sitemap to guide the organizational structure of each screen's design to ensure a cohesive and consistent experience across all devices.

Responsive Designs

The designs for screen size variation included mobile, tablet, and desktop. I optimized the designs to fit the specific user's needs of each device and screen.

The app and website will be a very useful resource to both young and older adults!

Takeaways

Impact

Users shared that the app was useful and should be used by everyone. One quote from the user was “We should all be prepared in emergency situations!

What I learned

Teaching something that could save a life is extremely valuable, especially for young adults who might not come across this information daily. Creating an app that saves lives should be a priority in our society.

Next Steps

  • Conduct research on how successful the app is in teaching young adults how to give CPR.

  • Add more educational resources about living healthy and emergency situations.
